What are the Benefits of More RAM?
RAM or Random Access Memory is the computer memory unit which holds all the running programs of the computer, meaning, if your computer programs are running really slow, or they keep crashing or simply not working well, you may need to add more RAM.
The RAM ensures the smooth operation of your PC.
All programs which are running in a PC at a given time are stored in the RAM.
So, a larger RAM evidently allows you to run a larger number of programs at the same time. And allow those programs to run more efficiently.
Here are a few advantages of Increasing the RAM of your computer.
• Increases the Number of Applications
When you increase the RAM of a computer, you increase the maximum number of applications that can run simultaneously on the computer. The number of applications depend on both processing capacity and RAM, but by increasing the RAM there is a fair amount of increase in the number of applications the same CPU can run.
• Improved PC Performance
The overall performance of the PC increases with an increase in the RAM. By increasing the RAM, the PC gets faster in most of the cases. However, if there is an excess of RAM further increase will not make any effect.
When you copy data from one portion of the hard disc to another portion of hard disc, it is first copied to RAM and them pasted to the new location. The increased RAM capacity provides more space to paste the data. Hence improving the data transfer rate of the PC.
• Boot Time
The system start up time and shutdown time of the PC improves to a great extent when the RAM capacity of the PC is increased. With an increase of RAM the operating system can load much faster and shutdown at an increased rate. This is because the ram can hold more bytes of operating system at once, hence increasing the speed of shutdown and start up.
• Reduced CPU Load
When there is high availability of RAM a lot of programs can run on the computer at the first time. A large number of programs can remain in standby inside the RAM while the CPU processes them one by one. Moreover, when switching between programs the PC does not needs to clean and copy data from the hard disc to the RAM. It is already there to process.
• Better Network Performance
Apart from the Network devices, the RAM and the processing capacity of the PC are responsible for seamless data transfer over the network. The data transmitted over the network is placed in the RAM when going out of the PC or coming into the computer from the network. Lack of RAM causes data transfer errors as there is no memory space to hold the data while transmissions.
• Better GUI Performance
The Graphic User Interface or GUI features are selectively used by the operating system depending on its computational capacity. The more is the RAM of a PC, the more graphic intensive GUI features are enabled. In lack of memory, the operating system reduces the user interface features like shadow, animations, etc.
These are the various advantages of increasing the memory or RAM of a PC. With an increase in RAM, the overall performance of the computer improves significantly.
